Be a Better Label Reader

READ THIS IMPORTANT ARTICLE BY SHERRY BRESCIA

If you’re reading this right now and feel tired and sluggish, have heartburn, are bloated and gassy, have a headache, are overweight or haven’t had a decent BM since Jimmy Carter was President, I have news for you.

Chances are excellent that it’s because you haven’t had any food.

“Yes I have,” you may say. “I ate a healthy breakfast, Sherry and it’s got whole grains to boot! I’ve certainly had food.”

Well, not necessarily.

If you ate what is positioned as a popular “healthy, wholesome breakfast,” here is what is churning inside of you.

See if you can guess what it is:

Do you know what the “mystery healthy, wholesome breakfast” is?

Give up?

Kellogg’s Strawberry Nutri Grain cereal bars!

They’re marketed as, “A smooth center of strawberry filling, made with real fruit, gently wrapped in whole grains and fiber.”

I wonder if all the sugars, chemicals and artificial ingredients are also “gently wrapped” into this concoction.

The bottom line is this: If you eat this or other processed “stuff” on a regular basis, you are most assuredly LACKING in real food and LOADED with sugar.

In this case sugar to the tune of a hefty 11 grams in a tiny bar that’s about the size of 2 of your fingers and will fill you up for maybe 6 minutes…after which you’ll be ravenous and reaching for another “healthy bar.”

And rest assured, that sugar comes with a HUGE health price.

Here’s what I mean:

The vicious cycle of sugar onslaught

In addition to the obvious packing on the pounds, having excessive amounts of glucose in your blood consistently is a great way to stress your pancreas because it has to operate in overdrive to keep up with your insulin needs.

Eventually it either can’t keep up, or your cells start becoming resistant to the insulin…which is type 2 diabetes in the making.

Plus flooding your bloodstream with sugar causes the familiar “sugar rush then crash and burn” experienced by sugar-holics. If you find yourself getting a sugar high followed by sluggishness and fatigue, chances are excellent you are caught in this trap.

But wait–there’s more!

Sugar is extremely acid-creating to your body, resulting in excess acid waste accumulation.

This puts your body in a state of acidity which stresses ALL of your organs, can cause inflammation from head to toe, ruins your digestion, makes you unable to effectively absorb nutrients and can make you a more attractive home for a whole slew of diseases.

Including CANCER, my friend. Cancer LOVES sugar–it thrives on it.

Plus sugar feeds the harmful bacteria in your gut. When the harmful bacteria outnumber the friendly ones, your immune system is compromised or basically non-existent.

Hello viruses, infections and possibly even food-borne illnesses.

OK, enough about sugar for now. Now let’s look at…

The “whatchamacallits”

In an ideal world, there would be a basic rule that states that everything you eat must actually be food.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Food USED to mean things like meat, vegetables, grains, fruit, milk, eggs and butter.

Now it means whatever the food processing industry wants it to mean.

Basically, as long as something won’t poison you, it’s fair game to be put in a food product of some sort.

Tell me, do you have any idea what these ingredients REALLY are?

Mono- and diglycerides
Carrageenan
Guar gum
Soy lecithin
Sodium alginate
Methylcellulose
Artificial flavors
I have news for you: Neither does your body.

So what it has to do is somehow break this stuff down. Then your liver comes into play to filter out what it recognizes as “non-food” from your bloodstream.

Plus any non-food remnants that move through your intestinal tract just add to your acid waste pile that I mentioned above.

Now of course the food companies can stand tall and proudly claim, “All of our additives are classified by the FDA as GRAS (generally recognized as safe).”

Yeah, and Elmer’s Glue is non-toxic too, but that doesn’t mean I want to drizzle it on my salad.

But what about the vitamins?

Now you’re probably chewing your nails and thinking, “So what about the added vitamins in the cereal bars? Aren’t they good at least?”

Nope.

For one, they’re synthetic and not nearly as good for your body as the naturally occurring vitamins in real foods.

Second, if you regularly eat processed foods, your body is probably so acidic that it can’t absorb and use the vitamins anyway.

And here’s an interesting tidbit: Synthetic vitamins are frequently derived from the by-products of the wood and petroleum industries–NOT from actual fruits and vegetables.

Sorry if I just made you gag on your cereal bar.

Feel great and make it into your golden years!

Listen, if you want to truly feel good and not be pushing up daisies any time soon, you’ve got to stop putting garbage in your body.

And start eating REAL food–as in, stuff without a bar code or “unknown” ingredients.

There’s no way around it–to have life and vibrant good health, you must eat real foods.

When you eat real foods, your body can say thank you in so many ways:

Regular, normal bowel movements
Less gas, stomach pain, bloating and heartburn
More energy
Excess pounds drop off
Better sleep
Fewer overall aches and pains
Clearer skin
Sharper mind and better concentration
